Prime Video Value Analysis

We examined how much value Prime Video delivers around the world by comparing each country’s monthly fee with the size of its on-platform catalogue.

Our dataset covers 80 countries and uses current JustWatch counts for movies plus TV shows combined.

To calculate value, we converted local prices to USD (at the rates available when the study was completed) and divided the monthly cost by the total number of titles available in each market.

A few important notes on pricing:

• The prices shown are the base monthly rates advertised by Amazon for Prime Video where possible; some markets only publish bundled Amazon Prime prices, others list Prime Video separately.
• We did not factor in taxes, local fees, or optional delivery/retail perks that might be bundled with Amazon Prime in certain countries.
• Annual subscriptions, which can be cheaper on a monthly-equivalent basis, were not used for this comparison—only month-by-month costs were analyzed.

What stands out from the results is the huge variation in catalogue sizes across countries, which creates big differences in cost-per-title even when subscription prices are similar.

The smallest library we found was in Latvia with just 830 titles, while Ireland topped the list with 13,018 titles — more than a 15-fold difference.

Because catalogue size matters so much, markets with modest monthly fees and large libraries rank best for value.

Nigeria, the Philippines, and South Africa emerged as the most cost-effective places to subscribe to Prime Video.

• Nigeria: monthly fee $3.00, 8,935 titles, cost per title ≈ $0.00034.
• Philippines: monthly fee $2.63, 6,210 titles, cost per title ≈ $0.00042.
• South Africa: monthly fee $4.09, 9,453 titles, cost per title ≈ $0.00043.

New Zealand also delivers excellent value thanks to a large library (10,038 titles) and a moderate monthly fee ($4.74, or NZD 8.00), producing a cost per title around $0.00047.

Large libraries don’t automatically mean the best value once price is considered.

Ireland’s catalogue is the biggest (13,018 titles) but its higher monthly charge (listed as £8.99 / $10.91 in our data) pushes its cost per title to roughly $0.00084, putting it around 19th for cost-effectiveness.

Similarly, the UK and US boast some of the largest selections (12,740 and 12,150 titles respectively) but their higher monthly prices ($10.91 for the UK figure used and $8.99 for the US Prime Video-only price) mean they rank only in the middle of the pack—around 21st (UK) and 14th (US) by our metric.

Price increases in some territories have altered rankings since last year: for example, Argentina—previously one of the best-value markets—saw the advertised monthly price rise from ARS 319 to ARS 1,149 (about $2.35 to $3.28 in the figures we referenced), reducing its relative cost-effectiveness.

In short: catalogue size varies far more widely than subscription cost, and the markets that combine low monthly fees with above-average libraries offer the greatest bang for your buck on Prime Video.

Cost-effectiveness analysis reveals surprising disparities in Amazon Prime Video subscription pricing worldwide.

Egyptian subscribers enjoy exceptional value, paying just $0.94 monthly—making it the most affordable market globally. Despite accessing only 1,605 titles (below average library size), Egypt ranks ninth in cost-per-title efficiency at $0.00059, though content quality may be compromised.

Turkish customers pay slightly more at $1.42 monthly, accessing 1,321 titles. This positions Turkey as the second most affordable market, though it ranks 36th when measured by cost-per-title at $0.00107.

The affordability leaders continue with Singapore ($2.18), Hungary ($2.44), and Poland ($2.51) completing the top five cheapest markets. However, all these budget-friendly regions share a common limitation—libraries containing less than half the average title count.

At the opposite end of the spectrum, several European markets face premium pricing. Subscribers in Guernsey, the United Kingdom, and Ireland all pay $10.91 monthly—over eleven times Egypt's rate. Switzerland follows closely at $10.90.

American subscribers occupy an interesting middle position, ranking seventh most expensive at $8.99 monthly for standalone Prime Video service. However, this differs from certain European markets where the subscription fee (though higher) includes additional Amazon Prime benefits like free delivery, which costs Americans $14.99.

Interestingly, countries like Nigeria, Philippines, South Africa, Japan and New Zealand offer excellent value when measured by cost-per-title, though none rank among the top five most affordable monthly subscription rates.

In our global streaming service cost analysis, we've examined the price-per-title ratio across different countries for major platforms. Some interesting patterns emerged when comparing Amazon Prime Video and Netflix subscriptions worldwide.

Several African and Asian markets present excellent value propositions. Nigeria stands out particularly for Amazon Prime Video affordability, though interestingly, Netflix doesn't offer the same value there due to a smaller content library despite average subscription costs.

Eastern European subscribers experience an inverse relationship between services. Countries like Latvia, Lithuania, Greece, Bulgaria, and Slovakia face higher relative costs for Prime Video but enjoy below-average pricing for Netflix content.

Some markets consistently offer good value across both platforms. Subscribers in Egypt, India, Turkey, the Philippines, and Argentina benefit from cost-effective pricing regardless of which service they choose.

While Amazon Prime Video requires payment for full access, Prime membership includes a substantial content library. Non-included titles remain available through individual rental or purchase options. Amazon occasionally offers special promotions with discounted rates or extended trial periods.
